My interests as a painter focus on Space, both literal and metaphorical. Space can be physical or mental, personal or universal, perceived or imagined, limited or boundless. The notion of “beyond” as potential, the undefined yet desired, appeals most to me. I use primarily water-based techniques, which allow the natural behaviour of paint, such as spreading, fusing, and penetrating on the canvas. These processes are related to children’s play, fortune-telling, or experimentation with the unconscious. However, they also resemble natural processes, like geological, hydrological, or biological ones. Using, in significant part, pure, natural earth-based pigments (ocher, umber, etc.) allows for a closer connection with the fabric of the Universe. Many of my works are modular in design, and their content transcends the frame of a single canvas. This encourages the viewer to arrange with the mind’s eye their own compositions, their own “version of the world.” It also helps images interact more easily with the surrounding space. Active observation of reality helps not only to structure the outer world but also to find and recognise the inner one and leads to increased self-awareness.
